Cabinet approval for establishing a NRI/PIO University

The Union Cabinet gave its approval to a policy framework for establishing a NRI/PIO University in India in the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) as a Deemed University de-novo under Section 3 of the UGC Act as an Institution of Excellence. The university will be set up by Overseas Indian Trusts or Societies with credible standing and experience in the field of education under the overall supervision of the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs.

India-Kuwait sign Labour Welfare pact

India and Kuwait on Tuesday signed a landmark labour agreement, incorporating steps for job protection, checking the exploitation of workers and ensuring the payment of salaries and other benefits promised at the time of recruitment.

Agreements with Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman and Qatar are also expected to be reached shortly.

Earlier, addressing the Indian community at a function in Kuwait City on Saturday, Ravi said the Indian Government is keen on protecting the rights of workers, especially domestic help. The Government is exploring the possibility of bringing the sector under the labour law, he remarked.
